|Military spokesman Brig. Gen. Metin Gürak said another 237 were captured, while 177 surrendered last year. Gürak said Friday 171 security personnel - including soldiers, police and government-paid village guards - were also killed fighting PKK.
There was no immediate comment from the PKK about the death toll. The group however, has denied the military's death toll in the past. Turkey last year launched several air force attacks and one major ground operation against the PKK bases in northern Iraq. The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Ankara and much of the international community, including the European Union and the United States.
